WORK SAMPLES

Please explore some of my favorite projects from various parts of my life

My favorite hobby is creating things, whether it's physical or virtual, there's nothing more rewarding than the feeling of when a job or a task is well done. I love challenging myself whenever possible and I am am always trying to learn new skills and create things outside of my comfort-zone. Outside of work I love to build furniture for my home and 3D print things to make mundane task exciting and challenging tasks easier.

ROBOTIC CAMERA IMAGING AXIS

AppHarvest | March 2021 - July 2021

While working at AppHarvest I was a critical member of a team dedicated to creating the worlds first commercially viable robotic tomato harvester, nicknamed Virgo. Over the course of 4 weeks we designed a secondary Z-axis that integrated with our existing robotic arm. This Z-axis carried an independent machine learning imaging system responsible for acquire target fruits in and unpredictable greenhouse environment. I was responsible for critical aspects of the design including the electrical cabinet and structural frame of the subsystem. After 5 months of work we created 4 systems that ultimately improved picking speed by 300%

SOLIDWORKS ELECTRICAL INTEGRATION

AppHarvest | December 2021 - March 2022

One of the reoccurring problems in our workflow was the integration and management of cables into our robots. To solve this problem I took the lead in learning SolidWorks Electrical and integrating this new platform into our collaborative workflow between the Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. I independently learned how to draw schematics, design cables, integrate 3D models and generate BOMS into our workflow. With this new workflow we were able to increase the speed of communication between teams and decrease the amount of overhead needed to maintain and update designs.

ALUMINUM LONGBOARD

August 2015 -  November 2015

When I was first learning to longboard I knew that I wanted to build one on my own, but to challenge myself, I built one entirely out of aluminum instead of the traditional wood. All plans were originally drawn by hand, based off of professional CNC decks. Having never worked with metal before this the project was quite challenging at the time.

ELECTRONIC DOOR UNLOCKER

August 2017 - December 2017

Still in it's prototype phase, the electronic door unlocker can accurately measure and respond to a secret knock and automatically unlock the door. Completed through Introduction to Engineering, the device successfully prevents lock-outs and only allows you safe access into your home.

LOFTED QUEEN BED

September 2014 - October 2014

During my Junior year of High School my first ambitious project was to redesign my bedroom. I lofted my queen sized bed and created an elevated reading nook, along with an L-shaped desk and sofa underneath. The goal of this project was to hang a hammock indoors without damaging any of the walls. The most challenging part of the project was re-wiring the electric in my room to incorporate the necessary outlets and lights.

ELECTRIC LONGBOARD

Dassault Systèmes | January 2018 - Present

Through my Co-op at Dassault Systèmes I had access to a state of the art Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. I used my skills in SOLIDWORKS to design a longboard from the ground up, and manufactured every component possible, including the wheels, electronics, remote control, motor mount, housing, and battery holders. It had been a long-term dream of mine to complete this project and it is now an on going endeavor as I can always go faster.

HYDROPONICS FARM

Root Ai | July 2019

One of my first tasks at my second Co-op, Root Ai, was to design a test farm that our robotic platform could use for on-site testing. This project encompassed the design, sourcing, purchasing, build and testing of the entire hydroponic system. I had to integrate many different subsystems including an adjustable lighting rig, a nutrient recirculating system, and the plumbing to isolate different parts of the farm. I learned a lot through this project about working with my teammates, how to grow and maintain plants, and how to quickly get work done in a timeline while balancing system requirements.

CAR SERIVICE

May 2014 - Present

When I was given my Dad's truck at 16 years old I knew that I had a lot of work to do. Since then I have completed a number of mundane tasks, such as replacing my oil, as well as replacing shocks and step up bars. I have also re-branded the Ford truck with 'Sterling' badges from the Sterling Truck Co.

3D MODELING

August 2017 - Present

My passion for 3D design began in high school where I lead the 3D printing club, originally modeling in AutoCAD. Since then my design skills have improved immensely and I began modeling in SOLIDWORKS. I love to model designs before actually creating them, as well as the challenges that CAD has to offer. I often assist my classmates in designing them 3D models when they need assistance with their projects as well.

CNC FURNTIURE

May 2018 - June 2018

Moving into a new house this summer was difficult, but with access to a ShopBot through my Co-op I was able to create industrial furniture with ease. I created a desk and a longboard rack (to hold my ever growing collection) using Adobe Illustrator and VCarve.

PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD DESIGN

Root Ai | November 2019 - January 2020

I have always loved dipping my feet into electrical engineering design work and I was able to take on a much larger challenge at Root Ai by designing a PCB. I asked for the chance at designing this board when it was in our pipeline and was glad to have been given this responsibility. In the process of creating this PCB I learned a ton about electrical engineering, circuits, and embedded systems in general, deepening my overall prowess in the field of robotics. The board has been validated and performs as expected serving as part of the communication subsystem
