PURPOSE
Create a custom longboard deck using novel materials and manufacturing methods
Build transportation device light enough to carry
Experiment with 2D CAD tools and hand drawings to prototype design
Learn the nuances of metalworking compared to carpentry
CHALLENGES
Working with limited tools and resources
Following predetermined designs during the construction phase
Creating a device able to support excess of 250lbs
Dealing with excessive vibrations while riding
RESULTS
Successful test ride in late November 2015
Longboard reliably performed as transportation device for 2 years
Additional support added to stress bearing members to prevent flexing while riding
Loctite added to nuts to prevent parts from coming undone
LESSONS LEARNED
Drafting and creating predetermined designs
Sticking to design plan when variables change
